According to newsok.com, police are investigating an attempted abduction of a girl near an elementary school.
A man reportedly followed the girl about 4 p.m. Wednesday near Western Oaks Elementary School, 7210 NW 23, according to a letter from the school's principal.
The girl, who is in the fourth grade at the school, said the man chased her and grabbed her arm. She told police she hit the man and screamed, breaking free from him. She then ran home.
Bethany police and Putnam City campus police are investigating, said Steve Lindley, Putnam City Schools spokesman.
The incident happened hear the Williamsburg Apartments complex at 7301 NW 23, just north of the school. It was near the location where an 8-year-old boy was struck by a car Oct. 26 at NW 23 and Wilburn Avenue. The boy has since recovered and returned to school, Lindley said.
The man who tried to abduct the girl Wednesday is described as wearing a brown, hooded jacket with a black patch on it. He appeared to be under 6 feet tall.
Principal Drew Eichelberger wrote in a letter sent home to parents Thursday, “It's our belief that children need to be smart, not scared. Make sure your children know stranger danger precautions. Teach and remind your children what choices help keep them safe, and take whatever steps you can to add to their safety.”
Eichelberger warns parents in the letter to report any suspicious incident to police and school officials.
“Please help us keep our children safe. Please continue to talk with your children about their personal safety,” Eichelberger states in the letter.
